| i was just looking at my estimate sheet from midas and thinking about what they told me... on the mechanics sheet, it says "steering gear rack leaking" the guy told me that it jumped a set of teeth, and there aren't enough threads left to re-align it without replacing the rack. on my estimate sheet, the part they listed says "steering gear" and part number says "misc" $432...does that sounds right(part only, no labor) i thought the rack would cost more than that(from midas, which is getting it from a local nissan dealer). does that all add up? i don't know the layout or all the parts that make up a steering system. i'm hoping someone else does... i wanna be sure i'm ordering the right thing when i do.
also, is this a DIY job? i have time, i'm in highschool, so i don't have to drive it. i have car background and experience, just not with the Z. i have a few friends recruited to help if i do it(whom also have domestic background). and if i really get stuck, my neighbor is a mechanic for the fire dept.
and if worse comes to worst, midas is only like a mile away...i could push it or something...
